The main opposition party CPN-UML has maintained that the Transitional Justice (TRC) Bill should focus on giving justice to the victims. In a meeting held on Monday evening to seek consensus on the bill at the invitation of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the UML leaders said that the UML will not stand in the way if the government advances the bill so that the victims get justice. After the meeting, UML whip Mahesh Bertaula said that when the government wants to make laws with the victims at the center, the UML has clearly stated that it will not become an obstacle.” Whether we are in power or not, we have been continuously playing a role in finalizing the transitional justice,” he said, “Nepal’s peace process must be completed. We are still positive to bring it to a proper conclusion. However, the government should come up with a bill based on justice for the victims. We have to find a consensus so that this issue is brought to an end.’He said that UML cannot give its consent if the bill is not by the values ​​of human rights or is contrary to international law.’We have our own thing and have made it clear. We help the government. We have no obstacle in the peace process. The government should pay attention while advancing the bill. “It is not possible to agree on the bill by going beyond international laws, treaty agreements to which Nepal is a party and international values ​​of human rights,” he added.
