Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has said that although Nepal’s contribution to climate change is insignificant, it has suffered a lot. Addressing the United Nations Climate Conference (COP 28) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Saturday, he said that Nepal has been wronged on the climate issue.”Despite Nepal’s zero contribution to climate change, the Nepali people have to suffer its devastating effects. Our people are suffering the serious effects of climate change such as floods, landslides, fires, and avalanches,” he said. He also said that the Himalayas are the base of human civilization, environment, and biological diversity, and said that the Himalayas are at greater risk due to climate change and rising temperatures. Prachanda said that he participated in the conference on behalf of the Nepali citizens who were wronged by having to become partners in the destruction without contributing to climate change. He also said that Nepal favors compliance with the Paris Agreement and is committed to zero carbon emissions by 2045. 45 percent of the forest said that the area will be maintained and the use of Nepal’s water resources will be increased. Prachanda also said that the least developed countries are facing problems due to climate change. He said that the least developed countries face problems due to climate change and need financial and technical assistance. Prime Minister Prachanda demanded that developed countries and the international community arrange predictable and equitable resources and technology for underdeveloped countries. He also said that less developed countries should be subsidized to address the climate crisis. Prime Minister Prachanda also said that there is a need for dialogue on the Himalayas and climate change.
